REPORTS FROM SMALL COMMUNITY MEETINGS
ST ALBAN/COLUMBA – There was no meeting in January. The February meeting was attended by 2 people with 1 apology. The Seven Steps was followed and the Word of Life chosen was ‘transfigured’. The plan for action was to possibly use this period of Lent for personal change by prayer and self-denial and almsgiving so that hopefully by the end of Lent we may find ourselves transformed into a better person.
ST BRIGID – The meeting in February was attended by 8 people and took the form of a Pancake Social Event. The aim was to make contact again with precious group members in the hope that they would attend the Mass for George on the following evening. It was a good family atmosphere. None of them attended the Mass but the group felt that they had ‘opened the door again’
ST EDWARD – There were no reports available.
ST JUDE – There were no reports available.
ST KATHARINE – There were no reports available
ST THERESE – There were no reports available.
Some newcomers had made themselves known to Fr Anthony but he has not visited them yet.
7. NEW PARISH PASTORAL PLAN
Liturgy - Veronica reported on the February meeting. The services for Lent and the Easter season at Sileby and Syston and also Fr Anthony’s Golden Jubilee/75th Birthday and Retirement Thanksgiving Mass to be held at Ratcliffe College on May 23rd.
The Ash Wednesday Service will take place at the Bishop Beveridge Club.
There will be a quiet Mass on the 1st Sunday of Lent at both churches and will build each week with hymns and acclamations up to Palm Sunday. The Palm Sunday Mass will begin with a procession from the car park.
There will be an Ecumenical Service and shared meal at the Bishop Beveridge Club on the Wednesday evening of Holy Week.
The Maundy Thursday Mass will need to be held in Syston this year due to the building work in the Church at Sileby.
As the Deacons are unable to lead the Good Friday Service in Barrow, Fr Anthony will contact the Vicar re leading the Good Friday Service in Holy Trinity Church in Barrow. Fr Anthony will be leading the Good Friday Service in Syston. The Easter Vigil Mass will be in Syston with both groups joining together. All Easter Sunday Masses will be as normal at both Churches.
Wilf Doyle and Peter Fryer are organising the format of the Mass pamphlet for the Thanksgiving Mass at Ratcliffe. It will be the Mass of Pentecost Sunday and Fr Anthony will choose the hymns. It was suggested that there should be a reader from each Parish and Veronica will lead the Psalm. Older children present will be invited to read the Bidding Prayers.
A possible final meeting may take place on 20th May.
The Children’s Liturgy Group have requested display boards for the children’s work. Fr Anthony said he would meet with Cath Jackson to discuss where the board/s could be placed when the refurbishment of the Church was completed.
Buildings - There was no report available
8. LIVING STONES
There had been no further developments
9. WORKING TOGETHER WITH SYSTON
There are no new developments but groups continue to work together very amiably.
10. PASTORAL ISSUES
"Am I my brother’s keeper?" We are all part of one communion/body and therefore have responsibility for one another. If needs are known then it is our responsibility to stretch out a helping hand. It was acknowledged that this can be difficult due to personal sensitivities.
11. GOLDEN JUBILEE
Shirley has emailed Sean Walker re the layout of the tables and seating is required for 200. There will be space for 16 on the top table.
Adults will have a starter and main course with cheese and biscuits, coffee and mints.
Tipping is not included and people will be asked to contribute to the service charge
Fr Anthony envisages that between Mass and the meal, drinks provided by him will be available in the Old Library. There will be no corkage charge from the College.
Fr Anthony will send a list of menu choices to Shirley.
Wilf visited Fr Ted Mullen who will provide hosts, chalices etc. The organisation of the procession, distribution of Communion etc will need further consideration.
