Theme of today’s Mass: “Christ who gave up everything for our sake”: We celebrate the self-sacrificing love of Christ, the unfathomable wisdom of God, who was prepared to give up everything out of love for all. In the same spirit, St Paul was prepared to send back to Philemon the dear friend of his captivity, Onesimus, a part of his own self.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Beryl Ford, Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Angela Doyle.
Deacon Brendan Campbell: Please remember in your prayers the soul of Brendan Campbell who died on this day in 2016.
Happy Birthday: Happy Birthday to Katelyn, altar server and reader, who is eleven today.
Mass Intentions: If you wish to have a Mass said for a special occasion or an anniversary, it would be helpful if you could make the request a couple of months in advance. Masses on Wednesdays and Fridays are less “in demand” and it is usually easier to make a request for one of these days at shorter notice.
Home Mission Sunday: Next Sunday is designated “Home Mission Sunday” and there will be a second collection.
Finances: Collection details will appear in next week’s newsletter.
Macmillan Coffee Morning: This will take place on Saturday 28th September in the hall from 10.00am to noon. Donations of cakes or a prize for the raffle would be most welcome. This year the Confirmation group will be helping the Friends which is wonderful. Donations can be given to Bron Coleman, Veronica Powell or Roberta Giacchino.
Confirmation preparation: The candidates for Confirmation will be presented to the Parish at today’s Mass, which is being celebrated for their intentions. Please remember that Bishop Patrick will be coming next week, on Friday 20th September, for the Confirmation Mass. There will be a shared table in the hall afterwards. This promises to be a real celebration of fellowship in the Parish, and of hope for the future. It would be wonderful display of parish solidarity, not to mention a strong message to the Bishop, if we were able to have a “full house” at Mass on 20th, whether or not you are related to one of the candidates.
Volunteers needed: Before the Bishop’s visit there will be a “clean-up” on Saturday 14thSeptember between 2.00-4.00pm. Please come if you are able to help in any way.
Altar Servers’ Guild of St Stephen:After a period of probation, new altar servers are eligible to be enrolled into the Guild of St Stephen and receive their bronze medal, which they proudly wear whenever they serve. At today’s Mass, there will be a short ceremony when our newest altar servers are welcomed into the Guild. They will then have only seventy-nine years left to equal Wilf’s current record. No problem!
Faith in Families: “Faith in Families”, previously known as “The Catholic Children’s Society” has written to us regarding their work. A copy of their letter is posted at the back of church along with a poster. Both of these can also be viewed on the parish website; just click on the image of the poster on the Home Page to access the letter.
Divine Infant of Prague BBQ: This will take place on September 29th to which parishioners from St. Gregory's are most welcome. It will take place after 11 am Mass.
PPC Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 25thSeptember. Please give some thought to any item that you would like to be raised.
Parish website: recent additions to the website include: Garden Party photos and Memories or our two WWII evacuees.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
