Theme of today’s Mass: “Our baptism with the Holy Spirit and Fire”: May the Lord who gave us this baptism purify us in our celebration today; for though he does not judge by appearances or hearsay, he demands of us nothing less than integrity and truth. Then through the spirit of our baptism, united in heart and voice, we will be able to give glory to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
Service of Reconciliation: This will be held at the Divine Infant of Prague in Syston this coming Tuesday 10th December at 7.00pm. There will be three priests in attendance.

Advent Reflections: The Justice and Peace Group has produced another thought-provoking reflection for the Advent period. You will find the second reflection attached to this newsletter.
Advent Appeal: The young people have chosen to support “Loughborough Town of Sanctuary” as our parish Advent Charity. We want to support the work of this charity during Advent by collecting donations of money for food vouchers; hats, scarves and gloves; toiletries, including toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap and shower gels, shampoo, deodorant; games, colouring books and activity packs for children. You can find out more about the charity by clicking on the link on the Home Page of the parish website.
Christmas Fayre & Raffle: Last week’s Christmas Fayre and Raffle were a tremendous success raising a grand total of £1,526.29. The raffle raised a magnificent £651 and despite a downturn in people attending, the stalls raised an excellent £875.29. Many thanks to all those who contributed in any way towards this achievement. There are too many to mention by name but there is no doubt that it was the whole parish who made it happen. You donated money, goods and personal time and everyone is congratulated and thanked. Despite the hard work this was truly a living parish working together as one.
Parish Website: The parish website has now been running for five years. If you have a minute, please look at this “window on parish life” and let us know if there are any items that are inaccurate or out-of-date. Equally, are there any elements that are missing? There are lots of pictures of last Saturday’s Christmas Fayre and the previous Sunday’s Youth Mass.
Sponsor a Mass Book: As Father John explained, we have now begun a new year in the Church’s calendar – we are now in Year A for Sunday Masses and Year 2 for weekdays. Please give some thought to the possibility of sponsoring a Mass Book or a set of Mass Books at £2 per book in memory of someone dear to you or requesting prayers for a special intention. Please see Kathryn Timmons who will advise on the wording to be used and arrange for inserts in the books you sponsor.
Finances: Collection: 1st December: £97.10. Candles: £1.70. Mass Offerings: £10.00. Christmas Flowers: £36.10. Many thanks. (Cheques to be made payable to: St Gregory’s RC Church)
Second Collection: There will be a second collection next Sundayfor Poor and Needy Parishes.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
