Theme of today’s Mass: “Behold the Man”: It is our purple and fine linen, our life of ease and our love of wealth, that is mocked today by the lone figure of Christ, the centre of our celebration. In the presence of Pilate he stood like a Lazarus covered with sores and wounds and spoke up as a witness for the truth.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Beryl Ford, Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Angela Doyle.
Finances: Collections: 22nd September: £.76.50. Smarties (25/9) £12.60, £12.00, £13.40. Mass Offering: £10.00. Candles: £6.20, Many thanks.
CAFOD Harvest Fast Day : Envelopes will be distributed today to be brought back next Sunday which is Harvest Festival Day. Next Sunday, please bring any produce and place before the altar. All produce can be bought (by donation) after Mass.
Guild of St Stephen: At Mass today, one of our newest altar servers, Caitlin, will be inducted into the Guild of St Stephen and receive her guild medal which she will proudly wear each time she serves in future. We thank her parents for their encouragement and wish her many years of service.
Thank you: Thanks to the parents of altar server, Katelyn, for their kind provision of white gloves for the servers on the occasion of the Confirmation Mass.
Confirmation: There are many pictures of the Confirmation Mass and the shared meal afterwards on the parish website. It was a lovely parish event. Fr Jonathan, the Bishop’s private secretary, was effusive in his praise of the organisation of the evening, the number and the quality of the altar servers (thank you, Wilf), the wonderful music (thank you, Jean and Veronica) and the self-evident sense of community spirit which he could clearly perceive. As a parish, we join with Bishop Patrick who thanked the catechists for their work over several months in preparing the candidates (thank you, Rebecca and Roberta).
Christmas Fayre & Raffle: The fayre will be held on Saturday 30th November so could parishioners please start collecting and bringing in items for sale. Since it is a Christmas Fayre items should be of good quality, new or nearly new, as people will hopefully be buying them as Christmas presents. Stalls will include books and plants, bottles, children’s bran tub, toys, fancy goods, children’s chocolate tombola, Christmas gifts, tombola stall and of course our favourite cake stall. There will also be a Santa’s Grotto. It might be an idea as you start your shopping to include an extra item or two on your list for the fayre. Please also ask your relations, friends and neighbours if they have any items they could donate. Please start bringing items in as soon as possible. Could we ask the usual stallholders, and anyone else who may be willing to help, to come to a short meeting after Mass on Sunday 13th October to put everything in place. In the meantime, it would be useful to think about any new ideas for raising money at the fayre. Raffle tickets will be available next Sunday, the 6thOctober. Please take as many as possible to sell to your friends and neighbours. Not only is this event our major fundraising event of the year, but it is normally a lovely social occasion (despite the hard work) so could we ask all parishioners to participate both financially and where possible with the preparations on the day before and on the day itself. Many thanks.
Red Missio Boxes: Please bring in your red Missio boxes and leave them at the back of church so that they can be emptied. If you would like to join the scheme, please see Bron Coleman.
Ratcliffe College: The College will be holding an Open Morning on Saturday 5th October between 9.30am and 12.00 noon. There is a flyer at the back of church giving more details.
Barn Dance: Parishioners are invited to a Barn Dance to be held next Saturday 5th October 7.30pm in Syston Church Hall. Details are on a poster at the back of church.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
