Theme of today’s Mass: “Our Father in Heaven”: Christ has given us the power to become the children of God. Compare the timidity and lack of self-assurance of Abraham’s prayer with the confidence with which Christ teaches us to pray to our Father in heaven.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Beryl Ford, Bernard Moyers, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Angela Doyle.
Recently dead: We pray for the repose of the soul of Joseph Gabriel Wilkie, Cath Jackson’s father, who died on Friday 19thJuly. Our thoughts and prayers are with Cath and her family.
Finances: Collection 21st July: £85.10. Mass Offerings: £50.00. Repository: £30.00. Books: £6.00. Candles: £3.20. Many thanks. (Cheques payable to St Gregory’s RC Parish).
Repository: Another £30 has been added to parish funds thanks to the efforts of Barbara Heath who organises the Repository. Please take a moment after Mass to see what she has on display in the School Room.
Smarties: Renewed thanks to all those who support the Smarties scheme and to Wilf for his masterminding of this fund-raising venture. In a recent five week period more than £62 was raised: 2nd June £12.80; 9th June £12.40; 16th June £12.60; 23rd June £12.40; 7th July £12.00. If you want to be part of this scheme, please speak to Wilf after Mass. There is absolutely no long-term commitment other than to eat Smarties and fill the empty tube with 20p pieces as and when you can, over as short or as long a period as you wish.
Catholic News: There is an article in the July edition of Catholic News on the subject of “Ecumenical activity in Barrow upon Soar”. The article is primarily the work of Kathryn Timmons who is tireless in her support of the “Churches Together in Barrow” group. There is a copy of the article on the parish website (link on the Home Page) and on the notice board at the back of church.
Children’s Liturgy: Please note that, in view of various holiday commitments, there will be no children’s liturgy until Sunday 25th August.
Faith in Families: “Faith in Families”, previously known as “The Catholic Children’s Society” has written to us regarding their work. A copy of their letter is posted at the back of church along with a poster. Both of these can also be viewed on the parish website; just click on the image of the poster to access the letter.
Confirmation preparation: The next meeting of the confirmation group will be after Mass on 1stSeptember. Please remember that the Bishop will be coming on Friday 20th September for the confirmation Mass. There will be a shared table in the hall afterwards. This promises to be a real celebration of fellowship in the Parish, and of hope for the future.
Rosary Rally: The 33rdAnnual Rosary Rally will be held again this year at Mount St Bernard Abbey on Sunday 1st September to pray for World Peace and Young People. It will start at 2.00pm with a concelebrated Mass. Please see the poster at the back of church for full details.

Please see Kathryn Timmons who will advise on the wording to be used and arrange for inserts in the books you sponsor.
Holiday Worship: If you are going away over the summer, don’t forget to let Peter Fryer have photographs of any churches where you’ve remembered our little parish on your travels. And don’t forget to take a parish prayer card from the back of the church before you go! Recent pictures include that of a chapel in a former salt mine near Kracow in Poland.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
