Theme of today’s Mass: “Christ always interceding for us”: Christ who opened his arms on the cross is like Moses whose arms were raised in prayer for his people. Today Christ asks us to join him in continual prayer and never to lose heart.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Beryl Ford, Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
Finances: Collection: 20th October: £92.86. World Mission Sunday: £76.58. Smarties: (13/10) £11.60. Candles: £2.20. Mass Offerings: £40.00. Many thanks. (Cheques to be made payable to: St Gregory’s RC Church)
Christmas Fayre & Raffle: The fayre will be held on Saturday 30th November, which is five weeks away. Please bring in your raffle ticket money as soon as possible. Please start collecting and bringing in items for sale. Since it is a Christmas Fayre items should be of good quality, new or nearly new, as people will hopefully be buying them as Christmas presents. Stalls will include books and plants, bottles, children’s bran tub, toys, fancy goods, children’s chocolate tombola, Christmas gifts, tombola stall and of course our favourite cake stall. There will also be a Santa’s Grotto.
Grave Blessing: On each of the four Sundays in November, Fr John will bless the graves of parishioners as follows: 3rd November - Barrow; 10th November - Sileby; 17th November - Loughborough; 24th November - Syston. If you would like Fr John to bless the grave of any of your dear departed, please join him at the entrance to the appropriate cemetery at 2.00pm and accompany him to the grave in question.
Masses for the Dead: If you would like a Mass to be celebrated on a particular day, please use the Mass Intentions envelopes as usual, indicating when and where you would like the Mass to be said. Please be aware that there are always many requests for Masses at this time of the year and it may not always be possible to secure your preferred date unless you are prepared to “share” with someone else.
Remembrance Sunday: This will be celebrated on November 10th. Parishioners are invited to write the names of those who died in or as a result of war on a card and place this in the basket at the back of church. Additional details may be added; for example, age, regiment (if applicable) and where they died. The basket will be brought up to the altar at the Offertory.
Prayer and Devotion Together:
“For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”(Matthew 18:20)
This week in church:
Tuesday 29th October at 3.00pm: “Divine Mercy”.
Friday 1st November at 3.00pm: “Holy Rosary”.
A full diary of devotions for November is posted at the back of church. If you would like to consider hosting one of these devotions at home (as someone already has), please have a word with David Cafferky.
Home Blessing: Have you ever thought about having your home blessed? Please see Fr John if you would like to arrange this.
Altar Servers: Please stay behind after Mass today so that we can know how many new cassocks we need to order.
Mary’s Meals: On Monday 14th October, eighteen filled backpacks were collected by courier for Mary's Meals. Thanks to all who supported the parish charity over the past two years.
Shoebox Appeal: If you feel able, please support the shoebox scheme (samaritans-purse.org.uk/occ). See poster on the notice board for all relevant details. The completed shoeboxes need to be returned to Michelle no later than the 16thNovember.
Faith in Families: Christmas Appeal: details on poster at the back of church and on the parish website. See Roberta for further information.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
