Theme of today’s Mass: “Christ the King”: We celebrate Christ our anointed king who overcame suffering and death and so brought us out of darkness into his kingdom of light.
National Youth Sunday: Today, on the feast of Christ the King, the Church in England and Wales celebrates National Youth Sunday. On this day we celebrate the young people in our parish and community and all the gifts and talents they share with us. The theme for this year’s NYS is “Significance”, taken from “Christus vivit”,Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation to young people: “For him, you have worth; you are not insignificant. You are important to him, for you are the work of his hands. That is why he is concerned about you and looks to you with affection.” (Christus vivit, 115) Today our young people will be reading, leading the offertory and serving tea and coffee after Mass.
Beryl Ford: The Requiem Mass for Beryl will be held on Tuesday 26th November at 11.30am. Burial to follow in Sileby Cemetery.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
Grave Blessing: Today’s Grave Blessing will take place at Syston Cemetery. If you would like Fr John to bless the grave of any of your dear departed, please join him at the entrance to the cemetery at 2.00pm and accompany him to the grave in question.
Service of Reconciliation: This will be held at the Divine Infant of Prague in Syston on Tuesday 10thDecember at 7.00pm. There will be three priests in attendance.
Prayer and Devotion Together:
“For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”(Matthew 18:20)
This week in church:
Tuesday 26th at 3.00pm“Divine Mercy” (NB change of time)
Thursday 28th at 3.00pm “Holy Rosary”
Christmas Fayre & Raffle:  The Fayre will take place this coming Saturday starting at 10.00am, so could we ask that as many donations as possible are brought in. The Church and Social Centre will open after 9.30am Mass on Friday until 1.00pm and again between 4.00pm and 6.00pm. Donations can also be brought in on Saturday morning. As it is a Christmas Fayre items should be of good quality, new or nearly new as people will be, hopefully, buying them for Christmas presents. Stalls will include books and plants, bottles, children’s bran tub, toys, fancy good, children’s chocolate tombola, Christmas gifts, tombola stall and of course our favourite cake stall.  Father Christmas will be arriving at 11.30am. Many thanks.
Over 65s Christmas Lunch: This will take place on Sunday 8th December at Beedles Lake Golf Club. The Friends of St Gregory’s will pay the deposit; participants will pay the rest. If you are attending, please let Sheila know todaywhat your menu wishes are.
Finances: Collection: 17th November: £85.90. Candles: £1.60, Donation: £50.00. Many thanks. (Cheques to be made payable to: St Gregory’s RC Church)
Second Collection: There will be a second collection next Sunday for Christmas flowers.
PPC Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 4thDecember. Please give some thought to any item that you would like to be raised.
Shoebox Appeal: Thanks to the generosity of parishioners, whether by filling the shoeboxes with gifts or donating money towards shipping, we have dropped off the following boxes filled with beautiful Christmas gifts: 2 boxes for 2-4 year old girls ;1 box for 2-4 year old boy; 4 boxes for 5-9 year old girls; 3 boxes for 5-9 year old boys; 2 boxes for 10-14 years old girls; 2 boxes for 10-14 year old boys. This also included £35 generously donated by members of the parish towards shipping.  It means a lot to me and I know it will make some children very, very happy some under-privileged part of the world. (Michelle)
