Theme of today’s Mass: “The Day of the Lord”: Today we rejoice that the night of our long pilgrimage to God’s eternal city, the new Jerusalem, will soon be over. The Lord’s unending day is dawning. Already, in the words of Isaiah, we see “the mountain of the temple of the Lord, etched against the eastern sky. Let us wake up and stand ready.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
Service of Reconciliation: This will be held at the Divine Infant of Prague in Syston on Tuesday 10th December at 7.00pm. There will be three priests in attendance.
Prayer and Devotion Together:
“For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”(Matthew 18:20)
This week in church:
Monday 2nd December at 10.30am: Holy Rosary
Wednesday 4th December at 3pm: Sacred Heart
Friday 6th December at 3pm: Divine Mercy
Churches Together in Barrow: There will be an Advent Service at 6pm today Sunday Dec 1st at the Methodist church. All welcome.
Advent Reflections: As usual, the Justice and Peace Group will be producing thought-provoking reflections over the Advent period. You will find the first reflection attached to this newsletter.
Advent Appeal: The young people have chosen to support “Loughborough Town of Sanctuary” as our parish Advent Charity. Please see the attached sheet for details of how we can all help.
National Youth Sunday: Thank you to the young people for the part they played in last Sunday’s Mass. There are several photos from last Sunday’s Youth Mass posted on the website.
Parish Website: The parish website has now been running for five years. If you have a minute, please look at this “window on parish life” and let us know if there are any items that are inaccurate or out-of-date. Equally, are there any elements that are missing?
Sponsor a Mass Book: As Father John explained last Sunday, we begin today a new year in the Church’s calendar – we are now in Year A for Sunday Masses and Year 2 for weekdays. You may notice that the Mass books today are a different colour from those used last week! Please give some thought to the possibility of sponsoring a Mass Book or a set of Mass Books at £2 per book in memory of someone dear to you or requesting prayers for a special intention. Please see Kathryn Timmons who will advise on the wording to be used and arrange for inserts in the books you sponsor.
Christmas Fayre & Raffle:  Sincere thanks to all those who worked so hard during the preparation for and the running of yesterday’s Christmas Fayre. There will be an announcement at the end of Mass giving the provisional total raised.
Over 65s Christmas Lunch: This will take place next Sunday 8th December at Beedles Lake Golf Club. The Friends of St Gregory’s will pay the deposit; participants will pay the rest. If you are attending and if you have not already done so, please let Sheila know today what your menu wishes are.
Finances: Collection: 24th November: £125.00. Candles: £3.50. Repository: £50.00. Mass Offerings: £40.00. Many thanks. (Cheques to be made payable to: St Gregory’s RC Church)
Second Collection: There will be a second collection todayfor Christmas flowers.
PPC Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for this coming Wednesday 4th December at the Bishop Beveridge Club in Barrow after 7.00pm Mass. Today is your last chance to propose an item that you would like to be raised.
First Holy Communion: If there are any children who would like to make their First Holy Communion, please see Fr John or Rebecca. They should be in School Year 3 or above.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
