Theme of today’s Mass: Today the Church celebrates the feast of the Presentation of the Lord which occurs forty days after the birth of Jesus and is also known as Candlemas day, since the blessing and procession of candles is included in today's liturgy.
According to the 1962 Missal of St. John XXIII, in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, today is referred to as the "Purification of Mary." This is known as a "Christmas feast" since it points back to the Solemnity of Christmas. Many Catholics around the world practise the tradition of keeping out the Nativity crib or other Christmas decorations until this feast.
Consecrated life: Today has been designated as a day of special prayer for Consecrated life when we should remember all priests and religious in our prayers at Mass, and especially our own priest, Father John.
Brenda Kearney RIP: There will be Funeral Service (no Mass) on Tuesday 4th at 11.00am.
Rosmini Centre: Healing Mass on Friday 7th(7.00pm-9.00pm). On Saturday 8th (2.00-4.30pm) “Praise to the holiest”; Newman’s struggle (Rev Bill Myers).
Baptism:Today’s Mass is being celebrated for Zachary, who will be baptised during Mass, and his parents Bernadeta and Dave. The family will be playing an important part in today’s liturgy. We also pray for Benjamin, who was christened yesterday, his parents, Suzy and Trevor, and his big brothers, George and William. Zachary and Benjamin were born on the same day in the same hospital. Their mothers did not know each other at the time, but shortly after that memorable day at the end of October, they met at Mass and it is fitting that both boys will have been christened within twenty-four hours of each other.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Tod Smith, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
St Agatha: Agatha was born at Catania or Palermo, Sicilyaround 231 AD, and she was martyred in approximately 251. She is one of seven women, who, along with the Blessed Virgin Mary, are commemorated by name in the Canon of the Mass.
St Paul Miki and companions: Born in Japan about 1562, Paul Miki entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and was a successful preacher of the Gospel. With twenty-five companions, he was tortured and crucified at Nagasaki on 5thFebruary 1597.
