Theme of today’s Mass:“Jesus, the Light of the World”: The Good News that we have heard is like a beacon whose light draws people irresistibly to Christ. We must not be content with lesser lights.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Tod Smith, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
St Thomas Aquinas: Thomas was born about 1225, entered the Dominican Order in 1244 and continued his studies in Paris and Cologne. His outstanding writings and teachings in theology, philosophy and scripture were founded on a life of prayer and faith. He died in 1274.
St John Bosco: Born in the diocese of Turin in 1815 and brought up in poverty, John Bosco devoted his life to the education of working youth. He founded religious congregations - the Salesian Order and The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians – to carry on his ideals.
Saints of the week: to find out more about the saints whose feasts occur during the week, please use the links on the version of this newsletter which is on the parish website (address at the bottom of this sheet).
Prayer and Devotion Together:
“For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”(Matthew 18:20)
This week in church:
Monday 27th January at 2.00pm: “Holy Rosary”
Wednesday 29th January at 3.00pm: “Divine Mercy”
Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: This year’s diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes led by Bishop Patrick will be from 12th– 17th July. The price for five nights is £755 (air) or £655 (train). Further information can be found on the poster/leaflets at the back of church. For pilgrimage details you can visit: www.tangney-tours.com/nottinghamor email Fr Simon Gillespie at: simon@nottinghamcatholic.com
Mass Intentions: If you wish to have a Mass said for a special occasion or an anniversary, it would be helpful if you could make the request a couple of months in advance. Masses on Wednesdays and Fridays are less “in demand” and it is usually easier to make a request for one of these days at shorter notice.
Faith in Families: We received a letter from Faith in Families expressing their thanks to the parish for donations received in response to their Christmas appeal. Details of the work of this charity and how to support them can be found on their website: www.faithinfamilies.org
Finances: Collection: 12th January: £122.80. 19th January: £83.10. Smarties (12.1.20) £14.00. Candles: £10.50. Mass Offering: £10.00. Second Collection for the Sick and Retired Priests’ Fund: £61.80. Many thanks. (Cheques to be made payable to: St Gregory’s RC Church)
Date for your diary: The Parish Retreat will be on Saturday 21st March at the Rosmini Centre. This day of spiritual renewal was much appreciated by all those who attended last year. The format usually includes Mass, a talk, time for private prayer and reflection, Benediction and the possibility of the sacrament of reconciliation. The day usually lasts from 10.00am until 3.00pm, but you could come for part of the day if you so wished.
Parish Charity: Thank you for your contributions to “Loughborough Town of Sanctuary”. Please continue to support the charity by placing goods/contributions in the box/basket by Our Lady’s statue.
Pax Christi: This is the international Catholic movement for peace. If you would like to learn more about this organisation, please consult their website: www.paxchristi.org.uk. There is a link on the parish website. If you feel moved to support their work, there are some small white envelopes at the back of church into which you can place your donations. These envelopes can then be put in with the offertory collection and will be forwarded to “Pax Christi”.
Catholic Diaries 2020: These are available at the back of church. Please take one and leave an offering in the white box.
New Rotas: We are grateful to those who produce the various rotas and, of course, to all those who help in any way. If you feel that you might like to join a rota, but are a little unsure, please know that you would be made most welcome.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
