Theme of today’s Mass: “The Lord is compassion and love”: We cannot celebrate the Lord of love without resolving to be more like him, for we are built into him like stones into a living temple erected to give glory to God. We belong to Christ.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Tod Smith, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
Season of Lent: To mark the beginning of the season of Lent, parishioners are invited to wear something purple to Mass next Sunday.
The Parish Lenten Retreat: This will take place on Saturday 21st March. Those who would like to attend are asked to sign up on the list at the back of church which gives full details.
Lent Lunches: These will take place in Trinity Rooms (Holy Trinity Church in Barrow) at 12.30pm on Fridays from 28th February to 3rd April.
Lent Study Groups: Please see the notice at the back of church for details. All welcome.
Prayer and Devotion Together:
“For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”(Matthew 18:20)
This week in church:
Wednesday 26th February at 2.30pm: “Divine Mercy”
Parishioners are invited to join any of the “Prayer and devotion together” sessions and, if they are unable to attend, to indicate on the sheet at the back of church the personal intentions for which they would like prayers offered in their absence.
Congratulations: To Terry and Sheila who celebrate 66 years of marriage. They were married in this church on Saturday 20th February 1954.
Mass online: If you know a parishioner who is unwell or housebound and unable to get to Mass on a Sunday, they may be interested in the link which has been added to the Home Page of the parish website and which allows one to view Mass being celebrated at the Cathedral in Nottingham on each day of the week. Times of Masses are also listed.
Finances: Collection: 16th February: £61.50. Candles: £1.70. Smarties: (2.2.20) £12.80. Many thanks. (Cheques to be made payable to: St Gregory’s RC Church)
St Matthew’s Gospel: There are some free copies of St Matthew’s Gospel at the back of church. Please help yourself if you would like one; first-come, first-served.
SPUC Youth Conference: The Melton branch of SPUC offered sponsorship to any young person wishing to attend this annual meeting. In the event, a student from Durham University took up the offer. Her letter to Wilf is posted at the back of church for anyone who would like to read it.
Quiz and Curry night: Millie andMatthew will be travelling to Namibia with their school, De Lisle, and Schools Worldwide to help local schoolchildren. Their first fund-raising venture will be a quiz and curry night on Saturday 28th March at 6.00pm in the Church Hall. Please see the poster at the back of church.
Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: This year’s diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes led by Bishop Patrick will be from 12th-17thJuly. The price for five nights is £755 (air) or £655 (train). Further information can be found on the poster/leaflets at the back of church. For pilgrimage details you can visit: www.tangney-tours.com/nottingham or email Fr Simon Gillespie at: simon@nottinghamcatholic.com
PPC Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 11thMarch. Please give some thought to any item that you would like to be raised.
Mount St Bernard Abbey: A documentary about the monks of Mount St Bernard Abbey near Coalville has received excellent reviews because, among other things, it is the only Trappist monastery in England and it is also the home of Tynt Meadow Beer, an English Trappist Ale.  For more information: www.facebook.com/outsidethecityfilm or www.outsidethecityfilm.com
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
