Theme of today’s Mass:“The Lamb of God”: We celebrate the Servant of God who came to do the Father’s will in perfect obedience. Yet he was more than a servant; John the Baptist calls him the Lamb, the chosen one of God.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Tod Smith, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
Prayer and Devotion Together:
“For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”(Matthew 18:20)
This week in church:
Tuesday 21st at 10.30am “Holy Rosary”
Thursday 23rd at 3.00pm “Divine Mercy”
Christmas Fayre Review: Although the fayre was again a financial success there were fewer people attending than usual and in particular fewer children so it would be worthwhile to review the timing and format. We therefore will have a short meeting after Mass this morning to begin this review. If possible could all those who helped in any way please join us.
Peace Sunday: The Bishops of England and Wales invite us to make today a day of prayer for peace and to reflect on the theme Pope Francis has chosen for the annual World Day of Peace with the challenging title: Peace as a Journey of Hope: Dialogue, Reconciliation and Ecological Conversion. Peace – based on justice. A world where human rights are respected, basic needs are met, people feel safe and valued in their communities and we care for our common home. Reconciliation – a process which begins when people try to mend relationships – between individuals or whole countries after times of violence or dispute. Nonviolence – a way of living and making choices that respects others and offers alternatives to violence and war. Peace Sunday has a particular ‘flavour’ this year because we pass so many significant anniversaries in the coming months: the 75thanniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, marked by Holocaust Memorial Day on 27thJanuary; the 75thanniversary of the end of World War II in Europe – marked by a special Bank Holiday on May 8th; then again, in August, the 75thanniversaries of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the 75thanniversary of Japan’s surrender. All a long lifetime ago and yet all events which continue to mark our history; events which show both the human capacity for inflicting evil and the human capacity to resist evil. In addition, we see the beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity under the theme ‘Unusual Kindness’, reflecting on how our Christian faith leads us to see all ‘others’ as sisters and brothers.
White Flower Appeal 2020: On behalf of SPUC, thank you to Shirley for making the appeal last Sunday and to parishioners for their generous contributions which amounted to £115.69. In addition, twenty cards were completed as part of the campaign to prevent further pro-abortion legislation. As you leave church, please help yourself to a “Precious Feet” badge. The badge represents the perfectly formed feet of a child in the womb ten weeks after conception and is a reminder of the humanity of the unborn.
Week of prayer for Christian unity: Please see the notice at the back of the church for details. In particular, there will be prayers at 6.30pm before Mass at the Bishop Beveridge Club in Barrow this Wednesday 22nd January.
Date for your diary: The Parish Retreat will be on Saturday 21st March at the Rosmini Centre. This day of spiritual renewal was much appreciated by all those who attended last year. The format usually includes Mass, a talk, time for private prayer and reflection, Benediction and the possibility of the sacrament of reconciliation. The day usually lasts from 10.00am until 3.00pm, but you could come for part of the day if you so wished.
Parish Charity: Thank you for your contributions to “Loughborough Town of Sanctuary”. Please continue to support the charity by placing goods/contributions in the box/basket by Our Lady’s statue.
Catholic Diaries 2020: These are available at the back of church. Please take one and leave an offering in the white box.
Second Collection: There will be a second collection today Sunday for the Sick and Retired Priests’ Fund.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
