Theme of today’s Mass: “The Law of Christ”: The law of Christ is unlike any human law; it contains the hidden wisdom of God. It is a law given by love and can only be fulfilled by genuine love and true concern for others.
Sick List: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Patrick Hodgson, Tod Smith, Angela Doyle, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Irene Pallot.
Rosmini Centre:Saturday 22nd (3.00-4.30pm) “Sharing Scripture in my life.”
St Peter Damian: Born in Ravenna in 1007, Peter Damian became a monk at Fontavellana. He strove to remove the abuses which had overtaken the church in feudal times by his writings and his personal example of austere living. He was made Cardinal Bishop of Ostia in 1057 and went as Papal Legate to France and Germany as well as Italy on the work of reform. He died in 1072.
Prayer and Devotion Together:
“For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”(Matthew 18:20)
This week in church:
Tuesday 18th February at 10.30am: “Holy Rosary”
Parishioners are invited to join any of the “Prayer and devotion together” sessions and, if they are unable to attend, to indicate on the sheet at the back of church the personal intentions for which they would like prayers offered in their absence.
The Parish Lenten Retreat: This will take place on Saturday 21st March. Those who would like to attend are asked to sign up on the list at the back of church which gives full details.
Finances: Collection: 9th February: £72.60. Candles: £8.30. Mass Offerings: £35.00. Many thanks. (Cheques to be made payable to: St Gregory’s RC Church)
St Matthew’s Gospel: There are some free copies of St Matthew’s Gospel at the back of church. Please help yourself if you would like one; first-come, first-served. In his Advent pastoral letter, Bishop Patrick referred to the desire of Pope Francis that we become more familiar with scripture.
Parish Charity: One of the J & P volunteers at the Home Office Reporting Centre recently met a young woman and baby on a freezing cold January morning. The mother only wore a thin top and very thin anorak and was clearly destitute. She was offered hats, scarves and gloves and a bag filled with toiletries but she kept saying she had no money. She was eventually persuaded that no payment was needed as the gifts had been donated by church groups and other non-faith groups. She was very grateful, so hopefully your kind donations will help her get through the winter. Up to the end of January, £140 has been donated in cash as well as numerous items of clothing. Please continue to support the charity by placing goods/contributions in the box/basket by Our Lady’s statue.
