Mass Theme: “The Lord who welcomes sinners”. We too taste and see that the Lord is good and celebrate this Mass in the joy of forgiveness. We gratefully eat the manna, the food that our Father gives us for our journey to the kingdom where his banquet is prepared for us.
Mothering Sunday:We pray that Almighty God will bless all mothers on this their special day.
Lent Reflections: The Lent Reflection for the Fourth Sunday of Lent is attached to this newsletter.
Stations of the Cross: Please note that there will be no Stations of the Cross today, Mothering Sunday.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Terry Cantle, Ida De Melo, Angela Doyle, Beryl Ford.
Finances: Collection 24th March: £87.95. Masses: £15.00. Donations: £35. Smarties: (24.3.19) £12.40 & £12.20. CAFOD: please see below. Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
Road Closure: The road outside the church is due to be closed next Sunday – please see the notice at the back of church. Pedestrian access will, of course, be possible. The Tesco car park might be a suitable alternative to the church car park.
Planned Giving Envelopes: These are available at the back of church. For parishioners whose offerings are gift-aided, please take the box bearing your name. If your offering is not gift-aided, please take one of the unnamed boxes.
Direct Debit Offerings: for some parishioners it is more convenient to make their offering via a monthly direct debit scheme. This certainly helps to avoid the situation where one has to scramble around on a Saturday evening/Sunday morning to find the right amount for one’s envelope. It also has the distinct advantage from the parish’s point of view of providing a guaranteed monthly income, which greatly assists financial planning. If you would like to consider this option, please speak to Paul Carroll, Stephen Giacchino, Sean Jinks or Peter Fryer.
Gift Aid explained: If you are a taxpayer, when you give money to the Church, tax has already been paid on that money. Because the Church is exempt from tax, we can claim this money back from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). For example, for every £10 you give the Church, the Church can claim back £2.50 from the Government at absolutely no extra charge to you. This applies to smaller or larger donations. It is totally painless. If you do not pay tax then you cannot make use of this scheme.
CAFOD Lenten Fast Day:Over the past two Sundays, the collection for CAFOD amounted to the magnificent sum of £226.00. Of this, a significant amount was “gift-aided” which means that CAFOD will receive an additional £40 from HMRC. Thank you so much for your generous response.
Retreat:Last Saturday a small group of parishioners attended a Lenten retreat at the Rosmini House of Prayer at Ratcliffe College. The day included Mass, meditation, prayers, the possibility of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and Adoration. There was a very nice lunch! The day lasted from 10.00 until 3.30 and was attended by about thirty people from different parishes in and around Leicester. The occasion felt like a “spiritual spa day” from which we emerged refreshed and invigorated. The St Gregory’s group was unanimous that this should be kept on the parish calendar and so next year the date will be published as soon as it is known.
Leicestershire Active Catholic Youth:LACY are organising a Countryside Stations of the Cross on 7th April at Mount St Bernard Abbey. Details are on the poster at the back of church.
Nottingham Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: This will take place from 14th– 19th July. There are details in the plastic wallet in the rack at the back of church and/or: www.tangney-tours.com/nottingham.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
