Theme of today’s Mass: “The Spirit and the Bride”: The Church is wedded to Christ in the love of the Spirit and looks forward to the final fulfilment of that love in the glory of heaven.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Beryl Ford, Bernard Moyers, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Angela Doyle.
Finances: Collection 26th May: £135.60. Mass Offerings: £15.00. Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
Second Collection: There will be a second collection todayfor World Communications Day. The theme chosen by the Holy Father, Pope Francis for the 53rd World Communications Day is: “We are members one of another”. (Eph 4,25). From network community to human communities. In his first message for World Communications Day in 2014, the Holy Father called for the Internet to be “an environment rich in humanity, a network not of wires but of people”. The choice of the theme for the 2019 Message confirms Pope Francis’ attention to the new communications environment and for social networks, especially, where he is personally present with his @Pontifex account on Twitter and @Franciscus on Instagram.
Parish Pastoral Council: The next meeting of the PPC is scheduled for Wednesday 19th June at 7.30pm in Barrow after Mass. If you have any matters that you would like to be raised at the meeting, please contact one of the council members: Terry Breed, Veronica Brown, Bron Coleman, Marlene Bartlett, Peter Fryer, Stephen Giacchino (jnr), Cath Jackson, Rebecca Jinks, Pam Looi and Kathryn Timmons.
Confirmation preparation: The next meeting of the Confirmation Group will take place today after Mass. Subsequent meetings will be on 16th June, 23rd June, 30th June, 7th July, 1st September and 8th September. Confirmation is on 20th September.
First Holy Communion: A reminder that five of our young parishioners will be making their First Holy Communion at the 9.00am Mass next Sunday.
SPUC: There are copies of the SPUC Pro-Life Today pamphlet at the back of church. Please help yourself. SPUC has joined with the Knights of St Columba and aim to pray the Rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament once a month for the unborn and their families. Although we do not have a branch of the Knights of St Columba in our parish, is this “Rosary for Life” something that we could organise here at St. Gregory’s? If you are interested, please have a word with Peter Fryer after Mass.
St Charles Lwanga and companions: Charles Lwanga was born in 1860 in Bugunda (part of modern Uganda) and became a member of the Royal Court. He also trained as a catechist. He was martyred on 3rd June 1886 together with twenty-two Catholics and a number of Anglican men and boys during the persecution of Anglicans and Catholics by King Mwanga.
St Boniface of Crediton: Boniface is known as the apostle of the Germans. Born as Winfrith in the Kingdom of Wessex, probably at Crediton in Devon, in about 680, he was a monk and teacher at Nursling in Hampshire, but in 716 he went to evangelise the German people. Ordained Bishop, he was given wide-ranging papal commissions throughout Germany and Gaul. Supported by his English connections, he founded monasteries and established dioceses, presided at synods and liaised with kings. He set out to convert the Frisians in 754 but was killed by robbers in a place not far from Dokkum, the Netherlands, on 5thJune 754. His remains are still venerated in his monastery, now Fulda Cathedral, north-east of Frankfurt.
