Mass Theme: “The Lord of compassion and love”. We celebrate today the Lord of compassion, who resolves to rescue and free us from our slavery to sin, if only we will listen to his serious warnings for us to repent.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Terry Cantle, Ida De Melo, Angela Doyle, Beryl Ford.
Finances: Collection 17th March: £110.00. Donations: £300. Smarties: (10.3.19) £6.00 Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
British Summer Time: Please remember that the clocks go forward next Sunday. If you forget to put your clocks forward one hour, you will arrive at Mass next Sunday and find that is has finished!
Stations of the Cross: All parishioners are invited to participate in the Stations of the Cross which take place on Sundays in Lent at 4.00pm. This lovely service lasts less than 25 minutes. Please note that there will be no Stations of the Cross next Sunday, Mothering Sunday.
Lent Reflections: Although this week’s reflection continues the theme of sharing whatever we have and connecting with our neighbours, this week we approach the theme from the opposite direction. The reflection focuses on the grace of receiving and asks whether, in our hurry to give, we deny others the opportunity to give to us. Can we experience the grace of receiving, perhaps by going to the Friday Lent Lunches at Barrow?
CAFOD Lenten Fast Day: If you forgot to bring your CAFOD envelope last Sunday, but you have brought it today, please place it in the basket near the statue of Our Lady. There are spare envelopes at the back of church.
Lent in Barrow: There will be two Lent groups, one on Monday evening (7-8) and one on Tuesday morning (11-12). Please see Kathryn or Bernadeta for more information. There will also be Lent lunches every Friday at 1 pm at Holy Trinity Rooms raising money for Health Action Leicester for Ethiopia.
Parish Pastoral Council: The most recent meeting of the PPC took place on Thursday 14th March. The minutes of the meeting and a copy of the report from the Finance Committee are available at the back of church and on the parish website.
Bishop Patrick’s Lenten Pastoral Letter:there are copies at the back of church and on the parish website; just follow the link on the Home Page.
Confirmation: This is scheduled for 20thSeptember 2019. Open to young people currently in year 8 and above. Further details from Fr John or Rebecca Jinks.
Leicestershire Active Catholic Youth:LACY are organising a Countryside Stations of the Cross on 7th April at Mount St Bernard Abbey. Details are on the poster at the back of church.
Mary’s Meals: We raised a total of £255 for the parish Advent Charity. As part of our Lenten alms-giving, our young parishioners reminded us at last Sunday’s Mass of the items that they are collecting in response to the “Backpack Appeal”: backpacks (new or good quality second-hand) into which will be placed: hand towels and face cloths (new); notepads; pens, pencils, crayons; eraser, ruler, sharpener, pencil case; shorts or skirt, t-shirt or dress (good second-hand); flip-flops or sandals; soap, toothbrush, toothpaste; small ball; spoon. Please pass any items to Cath Jackson. Please look at the charity’s website – you cannot fail to be impressed: www.marysmeals.org.uk
Parish website: recent additions to the website include: PPC Minutes, Lent Reflections; the Bishop’s Lenten Pastoral Letter; photos of our newest altar server.
Nottingham Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: This will take place from 14th – 19th July. There are details in the plastic wallet in the rack at the back of church and/or: www.tangney-tours.com/nottingham.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
