Mass Theme: “The love of our Father”. God’s love is so overwhelming, he loves us totally, however hateful, sinful and unworthy we may be. There is no way to express this love in our own lives except by modelling ourselves on Christ, and loving our enemies as he loves them. It is then that we are most like our Father in heaven.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Terry Cantle, Ida De Melo, Angela Doyle, Beryl Ford.
Finances: Collection 17thFebruary: £87.40. Mass Offerings: £25.00. Smarties: £12.40 (10/2/19). Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
Masses this week: Please note that there will be no Mass on Wednesday in Barrow or on Friday here in Sileby. Instead, there will be a service of Word and Sacrament on both these days.
Altar Server: We congratulate and pray for Katelyn who will be enrolled today into the Guild of St Stephen, having been judged to be of the requisite standard by Fr John and Wilf. She will now be entitled to wear the medal of the Guild like the other servers. We wish her many years of happy service in this important ministry and thank her parents for their support and encouragement.
Hearing Loop: For those with hearing aids, switch your aid to the T setting to hear direct from the microphones.
Confirmation: Bishop Patrick is coming to confer the sacrament of confirmation at our parish on 20thSeptember 2019. A programme of preparation will begin soon, and will be open to young people currently in year 8 and above. Please contact Fr John or Rebecca Jinks if you would like to know more or to put your name forward to join the group.
Parish Retreat:Our retreat will take place on Saturday 23rdMarch at the Rosmini Centre at Ratcliffe. The day will start with Mass at 10.00 and finish around 3.00. A light lunch is provided. Transport can be arranged for those who need it. Further details can be found on the notice at the back of church. Please sign up as soon as you can. What a wonderful way to show our commitment to the holy season of Lent.
Thank you:Terry and Sheila would like to express their sincere thanks to all members of the parish community for their prayers and good wishes on the occasion of their 65thwedding anniversary.
Beatitudes for a married couple:In his homily last Sunday, Fr John quoted the beautiful and thought-provoking “Beatitudes for a Married Couple”. A copy of these can be found on the parish website.
Parish Pastoral Council: The next meeting of the PPC is scheduled for 14th March. Parishioners may submit items for consideration to any PPC member.
Fairtrade Fortnight: During the two weeks of Fairtrade Fortnight (25th February to 10th March) individuals, groups and companies come together to celebrate the people in developing countries who grow our food, but who are often underpaid and exploited. This year, the focus of Fairtrade Fortnight will be cocoa and cocoa farmers, focusing mainly on West Africa, where much of the world's cocoa is grown. The campaign will highlight how many cocoa farmers, particularly women, are underpaid and exploited, and the scandal of unfair trade. Choosing to buy fair trade, ethical food and drink is everyday activism, and is the simplest way to change the world. Through fair trade, farmers and growers can earn enough to feed their families, send their children to school, and provide a future for their local community. After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
