Theme of today’s Mass: “The priesthood of Melchizedek”: Like Melchizedek of old we bring bread and wine to the altar and Christ, through the action of the Holy Spirit, transforms it into his own body and blood that we may all experience in ourselves the fruits of redemption.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Beryl Ford, Bernard Moyers, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Angela Doyle.
Father John: we remember Fr John in our prayers. His mother’s funeral will take place at 12.00 on Friday 28th at the church of Our Lady and St Patrick, Nottingham NG2 1JQ. You are all welcome.
First Holy Communion: The families of the First Holy Communicants would like to thank the parish for the support that they gave their children throughout their period of preparation as well as on “the big day”, including the successful pizza preparation evening in November, the gift of Mass books and their part in the special service a fortnight ago. It is heart-warming to see that three of the youngsters have now become altar servers. We feel sure that they will live up to the high standards set by their more experienced colleagues and, of course, their teacher. The parish is hugely indebted to the catechists who helped to prepare the children for their big day. If you took some photographs of the occasion and have not yet forwarded them to Peter, please do so as soon as possible (email address at the bottom of this newsletter).
Eucharistic Ministers:Today, the feast of Corpus Christi, our Eucharistic Ministers will renew their promise.
Finances: Collection 16th June: £120.18. Smarties: £36.10. Second Collection (Day for Life): £60.47. Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”). The Finance Committee offers sincere thanks to Wilf for his continued efforts with his “Smarties” initiative which is an important part of our fundraising.
Second Collection: There will be a second collection next Sundayin support of “Peter’s Pence”. “Peter’s Pence” is the name given to the financial support offered by the faithful to the Holy Father as a sign of their sharing in the concern of the Successor of Peter for the many different needs of the Universal Church and for the relief of those most in need. There are ten mandatory second collections each year and this is the sixth. Thank you in advance for your unfailing generosity.
Confirmation preparation: There are eight candidates. The next meeting is today after Mass. Thereafter, the group will meet on 30th June, 7th July, 1st September and 8th September. Confirmation is on Friday 20th September.
Parish Pastoral Council: The PPC met on Wednesday evening. Minutes of the meeting will be published shortly.
Mass Climate Lobby: Wednesday 26th June. Join CAFOD at an unforgettable event in London. It’s time to confront this climate and environmental crisis and tell our leaders that Britain should no longer contribute to the destruction of our common home. Departing from Nottingham and Leicester, Catholics will join with thousands of others to meet our MPs in the streets around parliament, all at the same time! Book a free ticket to let us know you are coming. We will make sure that our politicians act now to build a future where Britain no longer contributes to climate change and protects the environment.
