Syston 11.00am Mass (Walter Gooding RIP)
Theme of today’s Mass: “The New Creation”: At this season, Christ puts fresh heart into us, so that we may spread his kingdom. He gives us his new commandment of love and encourages us with the promise of the New Jerusalem.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Beryl Ford, Bernard Moyers, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Angela Doyle.
Services this week: There is a Requiem Mass in Syston on Friday at 10.00am (May Mitton RIP), so there will be a service of Word and Sacrament here at St. Gregory’s.
Parish Prayer Cards: These were distributed last Sunday. If you did not get one or would like to take one for somebody else, please help yourself from the box at the back of church. If you are a visitor to our church, please take one and remember us in your prayers when you go back home. Sincere thanks to the Friends of St Gregory’s who financed the project.
Keeping up one’s faith: Leaving home and starting university can be a challenging time in any young person’s life when many crucial decisions are made about the way ahead. It was heart-warming to receive an email from Conor Brockbank, a young parishioner now at Aberystwyth University, who sent us some photos for our website of churches where he had remembered us, as well as some details of his life as President of the Catholic Society at the university.
Spiritual enrichment: We can never know too much about our faith, but what do we do in order to enhance our spiritual development? At the back of church you will find some copies of a small booklet entitled “Christianity; an introduction to the Catholic faith”, which seeks to give the reader a deeper understanding of the faith. Please take a copy if you are interested. In addition, there is book lent by a parishioner, which you are invited to borrow. It is entitled “Divine Inspirations from Jesus and Mary” and it contains passages to read and reflect on.
Confirmation preparation: The first meeting of the confirmation group took place last Sunday after Mass. There are seven candidates. Further meetings will be: 2nd June, 16th June, 23rd June, 30th June, 7th July, 1st September and 8th September. Confirmation is on 20th September.
First Holy Communion: Many thanks to the volunteer photographers who, between them, are guaranteed to catch some memorable moments. A reminder that five of our young parishioners will be making their First Holy Communion at the 9.00am Mass on Sunday 9thJune.
SPUC: There are copies of the SPUC Pro-Life Today pamphlet at the back of church. Please help yourself. SPUC has joined with the Knights of St Columba and aim to pray the Rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament once a month for the unborn and their families. Although we do not have a branch of the Knights of St Columba in our parish, is this “Rosary for Life” something that we could organise here at St. Gregory’s?
Finances: Collection 12th May: £99.20. Second collection for Clergy Formation Fund: £80.70 Mass Offerings: £35.00. Donation for flowers: £20.00 Smarties: £25.20 (5/5/19). Repository: £30.00. Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
