Mass Theme: “The Lord in whom we put our faith”. Like Abraham, our father in faith, we are called by God to a new homeland. We are not to rest in the material comforts of this world, but to move onwards to the land of promise, where the Lord in whom we put our faith will transfigure our mortal bodies into the likeness of his glorified body.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Terry Cantle, Ida De Melo, Angela Doyle, Beryl Ford.
Finances: Collection 10th March: £103.40. Smarties: £10.80 (3.3.19) Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
Stations of the Cross: All parishioners are invited to participate in the Stations of the Cross which take place on most Sundays in Lent at 4.00pm. This lovely service lasts less than 25 minutes.
Masses this week: please note that Mass on Friday will be a Requiem Mass for Norbut Kohler at 12.00pm. There will be no Mass at 9.30am on that day.
Lent Reflections: This week’s reflection continues the theme of sharing whatever we have and connecting with our neighbours. The attached reflection focuses on a family of Syrian refugees and the welcome they have had in this country. The plight of asylum seekers and refugees has long been a consideration of our Justice and Peace Group with one member active in the work of “Loughborough Town of Sanctuary” whose members welcome them outside the Home Office Reporting Centre giving them information about sources of help and providing them with free vouchers for food and drink at John Storer House.
CAFOD Lenten Fast Day: CAFOD Lenten Fast Day envelopes will be collected today. Please place your envelope in the collection bags at the Offertory. If you have forgotten yours, please bring it next Sunday. There are some spare envelopes at the back of church.
Lent in Barrow: There will be two Lent groups, one on Monday evening (7-8) and one on Tuesday morning (11-12). Please see Kathryn or Bernadeta for more information. There will also be Lent lunches every Friday at 1 pm at Holy Trinity Rooms raising money for Health Action Leicester for Ethiopia.
Bishop Patrick’s Lenten Pastoral Letter:there are copies at the back of church of the Bishop’s Pastoral Letter which was read out two Sundays ago. A copy can also be found on the parish website; just follow the link on the Home Page.
Confirmation: This is scheduled for 20th September 2019. A programme of preparation will begin soon, and will be open to young people currently in year 8 and above. Further details from Fr John or Rebecca Jinks.
Parish Retreat:Our retreat will take place this Saturday 23rd March at the Rosmini Centre at Ratcliffe. The day (10.00 – 3.30) will be lead by Fr Anthony Furlong. Light lunch is provided. Transport can be arranged for those who need it. Details can be found on the notice at the back of church. Please sign up as soon as you can.Six people have signed up so far – it would be nice to reach double figures. What a wonderful way to show our commitment to the holy season of Lent.
Leicestershire Active Catholic Youth:LACY are organising a Countryside Stations of the Cross on 7thApril at Mount St Bernard Abbey. Details are on the poster at the back of church.
Mary’s Meals: We raised a total of £255 for the parish Advent Charity. This amount was match-funded by the Government which means that, with the additional income generated by Gift Aid donations, we will have helped to provide a nutritious meal for forty children for an entire school year.
Parish website: recent additions to the website include: Lent Reflections; the Bishop’s Lenten Pastoral Letter; photos of our newest altar server.
Nottingham Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: This will take place from 14th– 19th July. There are details in the plastic wallet in the rack at the back of church and/or: www.tangney-tours.com/nottingham.
