Today is Racial Justice Sunday: In a world steeped in violence, conflict and discrimination, the Gospel demands that we acknowledge the dignity of the human person, the necessity of building peace, prosperity and justice for all. St Paul VI teaches us that “all people have a right to work … to lead a worthy life on the material, social, cultural and spiritual level.”We are therefore called to ensure that people are not exploited while they work, and to open our hearts to those who face this hatred. “As you did this for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me …” In our task as disciples of Christ, our responsibility is to make sure people are treated with dignity at work and are not exploited. Migrant communities and those suffering from racial abuse are particularly vulnerable to being drawn into unjust working conditions and labour exploitation. News and information regarding Racial Justice Sunday are available on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales website: www.catholicnews.org.uk/racial-justice-sunday-2019.
Hearing Loop: When the Rearsby Convent closed, the Sisters kindly donated their hearing loop to us. Stephen Giacchino and his son Stephen dismantled the loop there and fitted it here. Many thanks to them both. For those with hearing aids, switch your aid to the T setting to hear direct from the microphones.
Confirmation: Bishop Patrick is coming to confer the sacrament of confirmation at our parish on 20thSeptember 2019. A programme of preparation will begin soon, and will be open to young people currently in year 8 and above. Please contact Fr John or Rebecca Jinks if you would like to know more or to put your name forward to join the group.
Parish Retreat:Our retreat will take place on Saturday 23rdMarch at the Rosmini Centre at Ratcliffe. The day will start with Mass at 10.00 and finish around 3.00. A light lunch is provided. Transport can be arranged for those who need it. Further details can be found on the notice at the back of church. Please sign up as soon as you can so that numbers can be ascertained.
