Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Mary Powell, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Terry Cantle, Ida De Melo, Angela Doyle, Beryl Ford.
Finances: Collection 6thJanuary: £114.55. Smarties: £13.60. Many thanks. (Cheques made payable to St. Gregory’s RC Church).
Change of Mass times:please note that in future the Mass celebrated in Barrow each Wednesday will take place at 7.00pm instead of 7.30pm.
Funeral Mass:the Funeral Mass for Assunta Furno will take place on Friday 25thJanuary at 10.00am here at St. Gregory’s.
White Flower Appeal: the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) will be holding its annual appeal today. SPUC is currently campaigning to stop the decriminalisation of abortion, which means taking abortion outside the law. This is the most dangerous threat to unborn children and their mothers in decades. Please be as generous as you can to help us defeat this latest attack on unborn babies and their mothers and to stop abortion getting even worse in this country by decriminalisation.
Sick and retired priests’ fund: there will be a second collection next Sunday for the “Sick and retired priests’ fund”. This is one of the ten second collections which we are obliged by the diocese to take each year.
Mary’s Meals: So far £225 has been donated to our parish Advent Charity. There is a donation box into which contributions can be placed in front of the statue of Our Lady. “Gift Aid” forms are available from Cath Jackson. In addition to collecting funds for the charity, we are also aiming to assemble backpacks containing essential items for a young child at school. Please see the display in the School Room for details. Our immediate focus is on the provision of backpacks (new or good quality second-hand) and hand towels and face cloths (new). Other items will be targeted in the weeks ahead and details published in the newsletter.
Parish website: recent additions to the website include: photos of Fr John’s birthday and the Children’s Nativity Mass. The website address is at the bottom of this newsletter.
Sponsor a Mass Book: at the beginning of a new calendar year, you may wish to give some thought to the possibility of sponsoring a Mass Book or a set of Mass Books at £2 per book in memory of someone dear to you or requesting prayers for a special intention. Please see Kathryn Timmons who will advise on the wording to be used and arrange for inserts in the books you sponsor.
A warm welcome: is extended to all visitors to our church, both occasional and regular. Among the latter we have been delighted to see Pam Looi’s parents here on a six-week visit from South Africa. We wish them a safe journey home on the 19th January and ask that they remember us in their prayers as we shall remember them in ours.
After Mass: please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
Used postage stamps: (for the “Helping Dogs Charity”) please put these in the box at the back of church.
