Today is “World Day of Prayer for Vocations”
Theme of today’s Mass: The Lamb will be our shepherd: We offer in sacrifice the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world. He who was slain is now our shepherd. He will lead to springs of living water all those who do not reject him.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Beryl Ford, Bernard Moyers, Ida De Melo, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Angela Doyle.
Confirmation preparation: The first meeting of the confirmation group will take place today after Mass. Further meetings will be: 2nd June, 16th June, 23rd June, 30th June, 7th July, 1stSeptember and 8thSeptember. Confirmation is on 20th September.
First Holy Communion: A reminder that five of our young parishioners will be making their First Holy Communion at the 9.00am Mass on Sunday 9th June.
Wanted – photographer: This position is still vacant! If you could help by taking some photos of the First Holy Communion service on 9thJune, please see Rebecca or Peter. You certainly do not need to be an award -winning photographer to qualify for this position!
Examination season: as we approach the season of public examinations, let us include in our prayers those young people who will be under pressure over the next few weeks. Let us not forget their poor parents and teachers as well! We pray especially for four of our young parishioners: Amy (A levels), Jasmine (AS level), Grace and Stephen (GCSEs).
Finances: Collection 5th May: £137.80. Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
Second collection: There will be a second collection today for the Clergy Formation Fund.
Missio: as you leave church you may have noticed the poster on the board detailing the sum raised by the parish in 2018 for the Missions: £620. Loose change dropped into the “little red boxes” really does amount to a significant sum over the year. If you would like to join the scheme, please see Bron Coleman after Mass.
Register of Deaths:Details are recorded in a Register of Deaths. These details are now duplicated in digital format and a printed version can be consulted in the file which can be found at the back of church. If you are aware of any errors or omissions, please let Father John or Peter Fryer know and the necessary steps will be taken to rectify the situation.
Nottingham Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: This will take place from 14th - 19th July. There are details in the plastic wallet in the rack at the back of church and/or: www.tangney-tours.com/nottingham.
Saint Matthias:Matthias, whose name means “gift of God”, was the disciple chosen to replace Judas as one of the twelve Apostles. The Acts of the Apostles states that he was also one of the seventy-two disciples that the Lord Jesus sent out to preach the good news. Matthias was with the Lord since His Baptism, and was “a witness to Christ’s Resurrection,” according to St. Peter in Acts. He remained with Jesus until His Ascension. According to various traditions, Matthias preached in Cappadocia, Jerusalem, the shores of the Caspian Sea (in modern day Georgia) and Ethiopia. He is said to have met his death by crucifixion in Colchis or by stoning in Jerusalem. There is evidence cited in some of the early Church fathers that there was a Gospel according to Matthias in circulation, but it has since been lost, and was declared apocryphal by Pope Gelasius. He is invoked for assistance against alcoholism and for support by recovered alcoholics. To find out more about St Matthias and other saints that appear on the weekly newsletter, please refer to the online version and follow the links.
Prayers for fellow parishioners: We have already made a start with photos of churches where parishioners on their travels have offered prayers for the rest of us in Norway, France, USA as well as UK. These can be viewed on the website in the “Gallery”.
Hearing Loop: For those with hearing aids, please switch your aid to the T setting to hear direct from the microphones.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
