Mass Theme: “Jesus is Lord”. Today we praise God for the marvellous things he did for our ancestors, when he heard their cry of distress and with his mighty hand and outstretched arm led them to freedom. What he did for them he still does for us, in Jesus the Lord who conquered sin and death.
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Terry Cantle, Ida De Melo, Angela Doyle, Beryl Ford.
Finances: Collection 3rd March: £122.90. Smarties: £12.00 (17/2), £12.60 (24/2). Donation: £100.00. Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
Stations of the Cross: All parishioners are invited to participate in the Stations of the Cross which take place on most Sundays in Lent at 4.00pm. This lovely service lasts less than 25 minutes.
Lent Reflections: In his homily on Ash Wednesday Father John reminded us of the need to commit ourselves to prayer, fasting and almsgiving in this Holy season of Lent. Our weekly reflections, founded on the principle of social justice throughout the world, will hopefully help us. These reflections, under the banner of “Longer Tables, Lower Fences” will encourage us to consider how we might build longer tables, rather than higher fences as we share whatever we have and connect with our neighbours. CAFOD’s Family Fast day on Friday gives us the first opportunity for specific fasting and alms-giving while throughout Lent we can undertake our own fasting initiatives and give any money saved to Mary’s Meals, our Lent charity. The first reflection is attached to this newsletter.
CAFOD Lenten Fast Day: CAFOD Lenten Fast Day envelopes will be available today. These will be collected next Sunday. We are asked to consider having a simple meal on Friday 15th March and making a donation to CAFOD.
Lent in Barrow: There will be two Lent groups, one on Monday evening (7-8) and one on Tuesday morning (11-12). Please see Kathryn or Bernadeta for more information. There will also be Lent lunches every Friday at 1 pm at Holy Trinity Rooms raising money for Health Action Leicester for Ethiopia.
Bishop Patrick’s Lenten Pastoral Letter:there are copies at the back of church of the Bishop’s Pastoral Letter which was read out last Sunday. A copy can also be found on the parish website; just follow the link on the Home Page.
Confirmation: This is scheduled for 20thSeptember 2019. A programme of preparation will begin soon, and will be open to young people currently in year 8 and above. Further details from Fr John or Rebecca Jinks.
Parish Retreat:Our retreat will take place in a fortnight’s time, on Saturday 23rdMarch at the Rosmini Centre at Ratcliffe. The day will start with Mass at 10.00 and finish around 3.00. A light lunch is provided. Transport can be arranged for those who need it. Details can be found on the notice at the back of church. Please sign up as soon as you can. Six people have signed up so far – it would be nice to reach double figures. What a wonderful way to show our commitment to the holy season of Lent.
Parish Pastoral Council: The next meeting of the PPC is this coming Thursday 14th March at 7.30pm. Parishioners may submit items for consideration to any PPC member.
Mary’s Meals: We raised a total of £255 for the parish Advent Charity. This amount will be match-funded by the Government which means that, with the additional income generated by Gift Aid donations, we will have helped to provide a nutritious meal for forty children for an entire school year.
Nottingham Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes: This will take place from 14th– 19thJuly. There are details in the plastic wallet in the rack at the back of church and/or: www.tangney-tours.com/nottingham.
After Mass: Please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
