Mass Theme: “Christ makes us his disciples”.We are utterly unworthy to be the apostles of Christ and yet he sends us out to be fishers of all. He cleanses us from our sins and gives us the strength to say: “Here I am Lord; send me.”
Sick list: Please pray for the following members of our parish: Bernard Moyers, Maurice Nixon, Irene Pallot, Eva Shirreffs, Stefania Stasior, Terry Cantle, Ida De Melo, Angela Doyle, Beryl Ford.
Mary Powell: Mary Powell’s Requiem will take place this Friday 15thFebruary at 10.00am. The requiem vigil will take place in church on Thursday evening at 5.00pm. Our thoughts and prayers go to Veronica and her family.
Finances: Collection 3rd February: £111.30. Mass Offerings: £25.00. Repository: £30.00. Donation: £150.00. Many thanks. (Cheques to “St Gregory’s RC Parish”)
Hearing Loop: When the Rearsby Convent closed, the Sisters kindly donated their hearing loop to us. Stephen Giacchino and his son Stephen dismantled the loop there and fitted it here. Many thanks to them both. For those with hearing aids, switch your aid to the T setting to hear direct from the microphones.
Confirmation: Bishop Patrick is coming to confer the sacrament of confirmation at our parish on 20thSeptember 2019. A programme of preparation will begin soon, and will be open to young people currently in year 8 and above. Please contact Fr John or Rebecca Jinks if you would like to know more or to put your name forward to join the group.
Parish Retreat:after the success of last year’s retreat, it has been decided to repeat the experience. The retreat will take place on Saturday 23rd March at the Rosmini Centre at Ratcliffe. The day will start with Mass at 10.00 and finish around 3.00. A light lunch is provided. Further details can be found on the notice at the back of church. Please sign up as soon as you can so that numbers can be ascertained. What a wonderful way to show our commitment to the holy season of Lent.
Our Lady of Good Success:last Sunday in his homily Father John spoke about the prophecies of Our Lady of Good Success who appeared to a nun in Quito, Ecuador, in 1611. If you would like to read more about this apparition and the prophecies of Our Lady, please go to: http://www.cmri.org/05-our-lady-of-good-success.shtml. There is a link on the parish website.
Can you help?We are indeed fortunate that so many people do so much for our little parish, but there is always room for more volunteers. Would you like to join any of the following groups: Church cleaning; children’s liturgy; offertory rota; reading at Mass; Friends of St. Gregory’s? If you think that you might be able to help, please have a word with Fr John after Mass.
Happy Birthday: birthday wishes from all the parish to Ellen Jarkulisz who celebrates her 21st birthday tomorrow.
Postage stamps: please remember to bring your used postage stamps to church and place them in the box at the back of church. These go to support a charity which trains dogs to warn their owners of life-threatening conditions. For example: Gemma has “Brittle” Type 1 diabetes where sugar levels fall or spike with alarming speed. Her trained dog sleeps by her bed and is aware if Gemma’s sugar levels change dramatically while she is sleeping. In the event he alerts her parents who then take action.
Mary’s Meals: You can help this parish charity by: the provision of backpacks(new or good quality second-hand) and hand towels and face cloths(new). There is a donation box into which contributions can be placed in front of the statue of Our Lady. “Gift Aid” forms are available from Cath Jackson.
After Mass: please come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. If you are a newcomer or a visitor you are particularly welcome.
