Finances:Collection 14th October: £106.90. Many thanks. (Cheques made payable to St. Gregory’s RC Church).
CAFOD:over the last two Sundays, the CAFOD envelopes raised £125.83 (and more with Gift Aid); the sale of harvest produce after Mass last Sunday raised £79.50. A grand total of £205.33 will be sent to CAFOD. Many thanks for your generosity.
World Mission Day: is celebrated this Sunday when a second collection will be taken to support the work of Missio. Missio brings the hope of the Gospel where there is turmoil, poverty and uncertainty in the world and where the Church is new, young or poor. Missio empowers local people to form and sustain communities of faith and they train and nurture future leaders so that the vital work of the Church in the world can take place. Many parishioners support Missio through the “little red box” scheme. If you would like to join this scheme, please speak to Bron Coleman or Joan Wiggins.
First Holy Communion:a programme to prepare children for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion will commence in the next few weeks. Children of the parish who are in year 3 or above are welcome to join the group. For further details and to join the group please see Rebecca Jinks or Fr John after Mass.
Children’s Liturgy:a new rota for the Children’s Liturgy has been drawn up. We sincerely thanks Lisa and Jo for their many years of service to our children and young people.
Christmas Fayre & Raffle:FOUR WEEKS TO GO!Please consider making a contribution, if you are able, to the Christmas Hamper, which is a major raffle prize. There is a list at the back of church of items required. The Christmas Fayre itself will be held on Saturday 17 November so could we ask parishioners to start collecting and bringing in items for sale please. As it is a Christmas Fayre items should be of good quality, new or nearly new, as people will, hopefully, be buying them as Christmas presents. Stalls will include: books and plants, bottles, children’s bran tub, toys, fancy goods, children’s chocolate tombola, Christmas gifts, tombola stall and of course our favourite cake stall. There will also be a Santa’s Grotto. Please start bringing items in as soon as possible. Many thanks.
Over 65s Christmas Party:we are hoping to hold our Over 65s Christmas Party this year at a different venue: “Beedles Lake Golf Club” on Sunday 2ndDecember. We are asking for a £5 deposit – the Friends of St Gregory will pay the balance. Please see the notice at the back of church for more details.
Youth Retreat: Saturday afternoon 3rdNovember in Stamford, organised by LACY (Leicestershire Active Catholic Youth). Details on the poster at the back of church.
November Masses for the Dead: on 11thNovember we shall remember with the rest of the country those who died in or who are affected by armed conflict. On 18thNovember there will be a Mass for the deceased friends and relatives of all the members of our parish. More details next week.
After Mass: please do come and join us in the Social Centre for a cup of tea/coffee/soft drink and a chat. Refreshments are also served after the Wednesday evening Mass in Barrow.
Reminder: the clocks go back next weekend. If you turn up for Mass next Sunday and there is nobody around, then you will have forgotten to put the clocks back!
Saints of the week: to find out more about the saints whose feasts occur during the week, please use the links on the version of this newsletter which is on the parish website (address at the bottom of this sheet).
