Bishop’s Letter: As Bishop Patrick made clear in his letter read out last weekend, the situation regarding Fr. Clement is going to take time to resolve and while this is the case there should be no judgement made in respect of him. Whilst the Bishop is doing all he can to support Fr. Clement financially, pastorally and spiritually, in the meantime he has decided to appoint Fr. John St. John as Parochial Administrator to provide for the continuing pastoral care of Syston and Sileby until the matter is resolved. Fr. John St. John will take up his ministry from the 17th September and I’m sure you will make him welcome for the time he is with you. Fr Peter.
Apostleship of the Sea: The Apostleship of the Sea is a Catholic charity supporting seafarers worldwide. They provide practical and pastoral care to all seafarers, regardless of nationality, belief or race. Their port chaplains and volunteer ship visitors welcome seafarers, offer welfare services and advice, practical help, care and friendship. The Apostleship of the Sea in Great Britain is part of an international network known to the maritime world as Stella Maris, working in 311 ports with 216 port chaplains around the world. 90% of world trade is transported by ship. However, the life of a modern seafarer can be dangerous and lonely. They may spend up to a year at a time away from home, separated from their family and loved ones and often working in harsh conditions. The Apostleship of the Sea relies wholly on voluntary contributions. They are only able to continue their work through the generous donations of their supporters and volunteers. There will be a second collection next Sunday for this important charity.
St. Benedict: born in Norcia, Umbria, Italy in about 480, Benedict studied in Rome, and then turned his back on the world and lived in solitude in Subiaco. Disciples came to him and he went to Montecassino, where he founded a monastery. He wrote his “Rule” which established the spirituality and way of life of monastic communities ever since. He died in 550 and is one of the co-patrons of Europe.
St. Henry: Born in 973, Henry became Duke of Bavaria on his father’s death in 995 and he was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in 1014. He was married, but had no children. He was ardent for the reform of the Church, took part in synods, founded monasteries, appointed bishops of integrity. With his wife he led a semi-monastic life of prayer and discipline.
Padley Pilgrimage: The annual Hallam and Nottingham Interdiocesan pilgrimage in honour of the Padley martyrs, Blessed Robert Ludlam and Blessed Nicholas Garlick takes place on Sunday 15th July 2018, assembling at Grindleford Station at 3p.m. for the Rosary Procession, followed by Mass celebrated by Bishop Patrick.
