In September 2018, Fr John joined us as Parochial Administrator,
He sent us a short introduction just before he arrived.
My name is Fr John St John. I have been a priest for just over six years. I left school at the age of sixteen to work in the building trade as a bricklayer, a trade I practised for over twenty years. I thought about training for the priesthood since my early twenties but the life seemed so far removed from the life I lived that I kept putting off reasons to attempt the training. In the meantime I carried on working and I did extra studies in evening school after work to obtain A levels.
When I reached my late thirties the thought of the priesthood would not go away so I decided to go forward to try my vocation. I was accepted to train for the Diocese and initially spent my first year of training in Valladolid in Spain to study spirituality. From there I was sent to Rome to study at the Pontifical Beda College where I spent three productive years and obtained my degree in theology.
After being ordained a Deacon, I asked Bishop Malcolm if I could work in a parish in England to gain pastoral experience and I was sent to Oscott College in Birmingham to finish my final year. I was ordained in 2012 to the priesthood. I am looking forward to working with you all in the parishes here at Syston and Sileby.
God bless all of you.
